The year is 2020... but other than the technology, not much has changed in New England since the 1890s. A wave of British Invictus, led by three elder Kindred, arrived in Boston offering aid to the floundering Camarilla Prince in his fight against a slavering mob of Cainite cultists hellbent on tearing down the First Tradition... but their aid did come with a price - his allegiance and that of his childer. Thus did the British Invasion begin, bringing much of Massachusetts and New Hampshire under direct Invictus control, leaving elements of the Camarilla to seek in-roads back into the heart of New England from their remaining foothold in Connecticut... or to plot revolution. The Invictus' arrival did manage to push back the Sabbat from Boston and New Hampshire, however, although Pendragon's forces have suffered several defeats in the last few decades, such as at Bloods Brook.
The largely rural states of Vermont and Maine are either Lupine territory and thus dangerous to Kindred of all stripes, or in the hold of the Sabbat and thus dangerous only to kine.

Covenants
The Camarilla of the Old World may have failed, but it found new life across the Atlantic, setting up praxis within a number of growing cities in the Americas and steadily spreading its influence into the burgeoning American government and infrastructure. Unfortunately, within a few centuries, a new enemy also arose in North America: the Sabbat, a group of violent Kindred touting a new creation myth attaching all vampires to the first murderer, Caine of the Judeo-Christian Bible. Sabbat packs perform rites to honor Caine, killing their prey and abandoning their Humanity. The Sabbat desires to openly rule humanity, in open violation of the First Tradition, and thus most other covenants oppose them. What few cities they have managed to claim are decidedly dangerous for kine, but generally not unfriendly to Kindred - the Sabbat believes other Kindred, once exposed to the Sabbat's way of thinking, will come around to its benefits.
Struggles between the Old and New World came to a further head in the late 1800s when Invictus Brujah from Europe established a foothold in New England, backed by Carthian Nosferatu and Mehket. Led by Roman Pendragon, William Biltmore, and Warwick, these Kindred helped shore up the Prince of Boston, Quentin King III, and his kin ruling over smaller cities in Massachusetts when the Camarilla could not assist them in pushing back Sabbat incursions from Vermont and Maine; their support prompted King to switch allegiances, siding with the Invictus, and pushing Camarilla influence out of much of New England. Local Camarilla Kindred remain scattered throughout Massachusetts and Connecticut, but have been unable to unseat the triad of Pendragon, Biltmore, and Warwick; after over a century, an uneasy peace has settled in between the native Camarilla Kindred and the European upstarts and King.

The mystic covenants have representations in New England. Camarilla ties to the Tremere have allowed them to establish a permanent chantry in Hartford, which is a further point of friction between the Invictus Kindred of Massachusetts and the native New Englanders, as many in the Old World view the Tremere with suspicion considering their open practice of thaumaturgy and the dangerous of Vitae addiction such practices carry. Chantries once existed in Salem and Boston as well, but Tremere infighting and Sabbat attacks led to their destruction in the mid-1800s around the time Quentin King rose to power. Scattered members of the Ordo Dracul, the Circle, and the Lancea Sanctum can be found through New England, and there are rumors that a cult devoted to the Egyptian god Set also has a presence within New England.

Beyond all of these reside the Banu Haqim, which exist almost as bogeymen that elders use to scare young licks... or each other. Born in the mountainous regions of the Levant ages ago, this secretive covenant of vampires has morphed over the centuries from a close-knit brotherhood of Middle Eastern Kindred to a tenebrous organization of enforcers and assassins for hire. They believe that other vampires are inferior and that taking the blood and souls of these lesser Kindred is akin to a sacrament. Vampires of any lineage might be allowed to join, provided they demonstrate the necessary skills and temperament; those inducted gain access to powers of the Blood held sacrosanct by the covenant as a perk of membership.
