Originally a Camarilla city, Boston was the first major New England power center to convert to the Invictus in 1895. The current Prince of Boston, Quentin King III, come to power in the 1820s when the previous Prince, Baladin (a Tremere) was found dead in the library of the non-defunct Boston chantry; rumors attribute his death to a power struggle within the Tremere itself, as the rivalry between Baladin and Coventry (the head of the nearby Salem chantry) was well known. Coventry would disappear mysteriously within the next decade as well, likely the victim of "disciplinary action" from the prime chantry in Vienna. At the time Baladin met his end, King and his brood (known as the Six Knights) were running operations defending the city against Sabbat raids; he easily slipped into the seat of power, but this shifting of his priorities nearly led to the fall of Boston; if the British had not arrived, the Sabbat may very well have been victorious. While King is Prince, many whisper that the real power behind the throne is William Biltmore, a British Malkovian elder and one of the three original Invictus leaders.
King's power extends into other nearby Massachusetts cities and towns through his Knights, who hold titles in the surrounding suburbs: Sir Sine Qua None in New Bedford, Sir Pro Bono in Gloucester, Sir Sine Die in Lowell, Sir Probus in Quincy, and Sir Praxis in Worcester.
The largest remaining Camarilla power center in Massachusetts, Provincetown has a very bohemian vibe as befits its Prince, Elsa Linden. The Invictus in Massachusetts proper are aware of her presence and keep tabs on the Toreador of the Cape, but Linden and King remain on good terms despite his shifted allegiance. Due to the city's overall remoteness, Linden finds herself dealing with malcontent Kindred and rumors of cultists. Until last year, a troupe of Ravnos had frequented the Cape yearly during peak tourist season to perform at festivals as well, bringing some additional strain and rowdiness to Provincetown, but this last year they did not come and no one is quite sure why.
Not a Kindred power center, Salem is the location for two major groups of witches - the Order of the Golden Dawn and the Twisted Horn Coven. There are numerous individual mages and smaller groups within the city as well; as a result, Kindred and Lupines remain hidden or avoid the city if they can.
Also not a Kindred power center, Manchester is home to the third major group of witches in New England - the Cloven Hoof Coven. There are a handful of permanent vampire residents within the city, but the region is largely under the purview of nearby Concord for Kindred affairs.
Taken by the British elder Roman Pendragon, Concord serves as the vanguard of "civilized" Kindred society against the Sabbat. The city is patrolled by Pendragon's brood and day-to-day operations are overseen by his right hand, Jacque Sirque. Pendragon holds court from Silverbrook, a well-appointed old manor house. Sabbat raids are unfortunately regular in the city and the surrounding area.
The largest remaining Camarilla power center in New England, American Ventrue Upton Rowlands is the Prince of both cities. There is also a Tremere chantry in Hartford; once a smaller house, with the fall of the Salem and Boston chantries, Hartford has risen to be the largest chantry on the East Coast.
Vermont as a whole is under the control of the Sabbat. Rumors suggest that Montpelier is the location of whatever Kindred serve as "leadership" for the local packs, and likely serves as the home base for the two best known packs in the region: Skelton's Rangers and Mowgli's Order.
Providence, and in fact most of Rhode Island, remains a dangerous mystery. In 1900, over the course of about a week, nearly every vampire in the city disappeared. The entire Primogen disappeared in the space of one night under a veil of thick fog, and others vanished quickly thereafter. Those few who survived fled the area as others disappeared, so no one is certain exactly what caused the scourge. The Camarilla has sent four separate Princes into the state in attempts to re-establish praxis in the region, but only the most recent - a Nosferatu named Elijah - has not simply vanished as did all the other Kindred. Whispers suggest Infernal forces may have taken root in the state... but no one has returned from surveying to answer that question.
